Spring Event: Snacks & Bingo Night - April 27, 2012

by Tony & Susan Leigh

Pre-Bingo Snackin' and Socializin'.

Probably the last TIRET event that will take place at TI Stafford, the "Snacks and Bingo" evening took place on April 27th. It was very well attended by 69 retirees and their spouses and guests.

Yum!! L-o-n-g table, lots of delicious snacks.
On arrival members were greeted by Bob Gruber and directed to the sign in tables manned by Israel and Nora Morales, Brenda Moss, Kay Cook, Gary Luckett and Tony Leigh.

Nuts and mix - take one.

Members sat at tables decorated with balloons and had a selection of nuts, pub mix and candy to snack on along with their drinks of coffee, tea and water provided by Estella and Ralph Garcia. At 6:30pm Susan Leigh invited everyone to go to the Buffet Table and help themselves to the selection of finger foods,- ham filled croissants, pigs in a blanket, various cheeses and crackers, vegetable trays and dip, and fruit trays. On separate tables the selection of desserts were brownie bites, mini cinnamon buns, raspberry lemonade cakes and cookies.

Gary & Tony:
Wrist bands = SuperPrizes.

At 7:00pm the club president, Lucy Salas, introduced herself and thanked Susan and Tony Leigh, and Estelle and Ralph Garcia and all the other volunteers for organizing the event. She introduced the new trips coordinator, Mary Brown, and mentioned the first two trips Mary has arranged which are visits to the new Skeeters minor league ball park, Constellation Field, in Sugar Land on May 14th and 24th . Mary gave some further details on the trips. Lucy said the deadline for signing up for the first trip was tonight. Lucy closed by thanking everyone for coming.

Daryl & Mary:
Day trips? Choose from 3!
Daryl Moss, Mary Brown and Jean Houston manned the Day Trips table where they collected money for the Skeeters trip and had information on the trips that Daryl and Lawson Cook have arranged. Lawson was our photographer for the evening.

Don Stefan - Bingo caller extraordinaire.
As in past years our Bingo caller was Don Stefan. It is always a pleasure to see Don and Lynn as they now live in Conroe, many miles away from Staford, but made the trip to the Bingo so that Don could do his usual great job as caller.

The bingo games were overseen by Ralph Garcia who always does a great job of keeping things organized. We started with White Elephant Bingo and everyone won at least one of the many very varied prizes given out to the winners by Marian Gruber, Dorothy Wanza and Betty Parker. The White Elephant star prize game was a "Coverall" game for a $25.00 Walmart Gift card and was won by Sheryl Feldner. When all the prizes had been given out there was a short break for drink and food refills after which numbers were called for the small door prizes provided by Susan Leigh. These were won by Lucy Salas, Don Stefan, Sheryl Feldner, Betty Springfield, Beverly Cayton, Patricia Oates Collier, Mary Gomez, Gloria Byers, Mary Lee Cameron and Daryl Moss.

All eagerly awaiting the “Go” signal for food.

Fifty-five members paid $5.00 to play for the Special Bingo prizes. There were cheers and sighs as each of the prizes were won and given out by Mary Gomez. The winners were Brenda Moss - Bissell Lt. Wt. Vacuum Cleaner, Kathleen Lyons - Set of Panasonic Telephones, Lydia Barker - Full/Queen size quilt, Lisa Carranza - Cordless Drill and Flashlight set, Sheryl Feldner - Set of Towels, Patricia Oates Collier - Waffle Cone Maker, Bob Gruber - Oster Blender, Norma Gann - Bionaire Steam Mop, Gladys Price - Aliva Crosscut Shredder, Mary Lee Cameron - Foot Spa, Estella Garcia - Mr. Coffee 12cup Coffee Maker, Kay Cook -Camcorder and Picture Frame, Mary Lee Cameron - Spice Rack and Spices, Ann Janca - Blood Pressure Monitor, Sheryl Feldner - 5 qt. Crock Pot, Estella Garcia, $30.00 Pappa's Restaurant Chain Gift Card, Marian Gruber -$50.00 Walmart Gift Card. Ties were decided by rolling Dice. The person throwing the highest number chose first. The last game for the $50.00 Walmart Gift card was a coverall game and was jointly won by Marian and Bob Gruber who were both waiting for the same number to be called. N16. Quite a coincidence for a husband and wife to be joint winners. Ralph did not realize there were two winners and did not roll the dice to see who got the highest number. He gave the prize to Marian and presumably left them to fight over it on the way home.

Thanks are due to Daryl Moss for donating the $30.00 Pappas gift card, Lynn Stefan for the Waffle Cone Maker and Foot Spa and Susan Leigh for the Full/Queen Quilt.

Susan and Tony would like to thank the TIRET Members who helped make this event a great success and Susan thanks their guests Victoria and Rhonda Leigh, whose help preparing the food and table decorations, she could not have managed without.
