Southern Empress Lake Conroe Cruise - June 27, 2011

by Jeanne Brandt

We were happy to have so many people on the bus plus several who joined us at Lake Conroe, Sunset Harbor Marina for our time on the Southern Empress paddlewheeler.

The lunch was delicious.

After taking our group picture, all 45 of us, boarded the boat. Tables were set with salad and we chose our places. Most tables were by the windows. Much to my delight we were served a delicious baked sliced ham, green beans, new potatoes with chocolate cake for dessert, plus coffee or tea.

When lunch was finished we migrated up to the rec "dance" deck where a very good DJ, Sean Wade, was selecting a wide variety of songs from the 50's-60's, country western, Tejano, hip hop, etc. We all enjoyed the toe tapping beat with many of the ladies doing line dancing: the Wobble, the Macarena and YMCA. Some of those ladies really knew their steps and moves. Larry Reynolds seemed to enjoy dancing to all of it and my guest, Ida Lou Nicholas, was happy to join him. Even Ralph and Estella Garcia enjoyed a couple of dances. There was clapping and whistling for all.

These ladies know how to do the Wobble!

Our disappointment was not being able to get out on the water due to the winds blowing at 15-20 knots. They are not able to maneuver the boat easily in windy conditions so for safety reasons we stayed dockside. Nevertheless, I feel everyone enjoyed the day.

Bus riders were: Deloris Baugh, Jeanne Brandt, Lillie Brown, K.J. & Gloria Byers, Mary Lee & Howard Cameron, Bernadine Dennis, Gwen & Eddie Dickey, Betty Dixon, Norma Gann, Estella & Ralph Garcia, Mary & Rudy Gomez, Marian & Bob Gruber, Thomas & Jeanette Johnson, Kathleen & Katrina Lyons, Brenda & Daryl Moss, Ida Lou Nicholas , Gladys Price, Eva Rose, Patsy Seay, Lucy Salas, Sharon Tyler, Jewel & Daren Welch, and Virginia Vargus.

Those who met us at the boat were: Artye Mathews, De Ann Thomas , Joyce Slanina, Janie Asizo, Sabrina , Larry Reynolds, Bobbie White, Mary & Bill Young and Sandy & Israel Zamora.

Join us soon on another exciting Day Trip.

And the dancing continues.

Go, ladies!
